Rhodes senior Matthew Huber and alumna Kayla Wilson have been offered the fellowships, following a national competition. The new awardees were selected from more than 12,000 applicants.
A biomathematics major, she is one of 211 students nationwide to receive the Goldwater Scholarship for 2018-2019, which is the preeminent undergraduate award of its type in the fields of mathematics, the natural sciences, and engineering.
The research will be conducted by the James Webb Space Telescope, which is scheduled for launch in 2020.
Rhodes was represented at the 255th American Chemical Society National Conference attended by more than 10,000 chemists from around the world.
The article proposes a new procedure for evaluating women who experience recurrent pregnancy loss. She published the article with Rhodes Biology Professor Dr. Carolyn Jaslow and Dr. William Kutteh of Fertility Associates of Memphis.
The tournament will be held March 23-25 at the D’Army Bailey Courthouse. “It’s our best opportunity to show what we’ve been working so hard on this year and to really demonstrate the kind of excellence Rhodes represents in collegiate mock trial,” says Daniel Elliott ’19.
She is one of only 40 graduating college seniors nationwide awarded the fellowship. She plans to visit Guatemala, South Africa, Greece, India, and Mongolia while completing her project titled “Searching for Home, Shaping the Self.”
Bryce Berry, Molly French, Will Hunt, Ben South, and Robert Zazulak are recipients of the Theodore William Eckels International Business Internship. Yanxin Li has received the Wafsky Iskander International Internship.
Prof. Wilkinson is a 2003 Rhodes alumna. Her poem, “When We Were Shepherds,” was published in the March 5 issue of The Nation, America’s oldest weekly magazine.
